This is Rauna Kuokkanen’s bilingual – English and Sami – blog.

Rauna Kuokkanen is Assistant Professor at the Department of Political Science/ Aboriginal Studies Program at the University of Toronto. She holds a PhD on Education from the University of British Columbia (Vancouver, Canada), an M.A. on Comparative Literature (UBC) and an M.A. on Sami Language and Literature (University of Oulu, Finland). She is the author of Reshaping the University: Responsibility, Indigenous Epistemes and the Logic of the Gift (UBC Press, 2007) and editor of the anthology on Sami literature Juoga mii geasuha (2001). Her current research interests include indigenous peoples’ higher education, indigenous phil0sophies and the intersections of autonomy, violence and political economy in the context of indigenous women. She was the founding chair of the Sami Youth Organization in Finland, established in 1991, and served as the Vice-President of the Sami Council in 1997-98. Currently she is a member of the Board of the Sami Women’s Forum and a member of the International Feminist Network for the Gift Economy. She is from Ohcejohka/Utsjoki, Sápmi (Finland).
